We’ve made a small but important change to how users in the UK and Australia show up on Sugaryy.
What’s Changing?
If you live in the UK or Australia — whether you’re new to Sugaryy or already using it — you’ll now need to upload at least one clear photo of your face.
This helps us make sure everyone on Sugaryy meets the minimum age requirement.
Why Are We Doing This?
New laws in the UK and Australia are designed to better protect young people online. These laws ask platforms like ours to take extra steps to make sure users are adults.
Our photo review process helps us do exactly that — while keeping Sugaryy a safe and authentic place for everyone.
What Happens After You Upload Your Photo?
Here’s how it works, step by step:
- We check that at least one photo clearly shows your face and that it’s just you in the photo. If we can’t find a clear solo face photo, we’ll ask you to upload another one.
- Once a face photo is detected, we use automated tools to estimate whether you’re over 18.
Possible Outcomes
You’re likely over 18
You’re all set! You can continue using Sugaryy and head straight to the Discover page.
You’re likely under 18
Your account will be removed. If you think this is a mistake, you can submit an appeal. As part of the appeal, we’ll ask you to verify your age.
For users in Australia:
If you’d prefer not to submit a government-issued ID, you can email us at hello@sugaryy.co with the subject line “Australia Appeal No ID”. A moderator will then take another look at your account.
We’re not sure about your age
In this case, your profile will be reviewed manually by a trained moderator.
How Long Does the Review Take?
New Users
Reviews usually take up to 24 hours. While we’re reviewing your profile, you can still Like or Skip people in Discover — but any Likes you send won’t be delivered until the review is finished.
Existing Users
If you’re already on Sugaryy, your Likes will continue to work as usual during the review.
What Happens to My Data?
We know privacy matters, so here’s what happens to your information:
- Your photo used for the age check may be stored for up to three months.
- A secure, hashed version of the photo and the age-check result may be kept for up to one year.
- Your profile photos are kept for as long as your account is active (plus any required retention period after account closure or ban).
- Moderation records are kept for the life of the account.
- Age-check results may be used to improve our trust and safety tools.
This process helps keep the Sugaryy community safe and true to the values we care about most: authenticity, courage, and empathy.
